Nominations for 2011 Planning Committee

Nominations are currently closed.  Please see below to learn about last year's nomination process:

SUBJECT:  HIV Prevention Community Planning Committee New Member Solicitation

Dear Colleague:

Attached is an application package for membership on the statewide HIV Prevention Community Planning Committee, which was originally formed in May 1994.  Self-nominations are encouraged.  Please feel free to reproduce and disseminate copies of this letter and the application package to all individuals, key groups and organizations interested in HIV Prevention who may want to be considered for membership on this important committee.  The application package can also be downloaded at www.stophiv.com.  The annual recruitment is needed to replace members due to attrition and/or to fill representational gaps.  In order to fill gaps that currently exist in the composition of the membership, we are particularly interested in applicants who are persons living with HIV/AIDS, Hispanic/Latino individuals that identify with or represent target populations (see list on the nomination form), individuals between the ages of 30 and 49, individuals with a working knowledge and experience in program evaluation or epidemiology, and individuals residing in the counties of Carbon, Monroe, Northampton, Lehigh, Berks, Schuylkill, Bucks, Delaware, Chester and Montgomery. However, all applications will be given consideration.

2011 Nomination Process Overview

The package contains an application form, the Division’s procedures for nominating and selecting membership on the committee, and a job description for an HIV Prevention Community Planning Committee member.  It is important that applicants receive the entire package in order to understand the HIV Prevention Community Planning process.  Applicants should also be sure they provide a written statement describing why they wish to become a member, and sign the application form.

An independent selection committee will anonymously review all applications and recommend new members based only on criteria for selection to the Committee.  It is expected that the selection process will be completed by the end of October.  An orientation for the new members of the HIV Prevention Community Planning Committee will be conducted on Wednesday November 17, 2010 in the Harrisburg area. Each new member will receive an orientation manual and be assigned an experienced Committee member as a mentor.

The meeting dates for 2011 are January 19-20, March 16-17, May 18-19, July 20-21, August 17-18, September 21, and November 16.  All meetings are in Harrisburg.  The first day, of two-day meetings, run from 9:00-4:30.  The second day of two-day meetings, and one-day meetings, run from 9:00-3:00.

Participatory HIV prevention community planning is an essential component of a comprehensive HIV prevention program.  All members are expected to attend and actively participate in all meetings unless circumstances beyond their control prevent this from happening. Please take advantage of this important opportunity to affect the direction of the HIV prevention planning process in Pennsylvania. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Ken
